Port Ben Boat Club
Listen to Kahaksink-Rondout & join the club!
Gretchen Burger + Sarah Cameron Sunde

Port Ben Boat Club evolved from  Kahaksink-Rondoutings, a project where, with our local community, we activated connections to the Rondout Creek watershed and each other by creating experiential access points. Learning about the original Port Ben Boat Club, which existed in the early 1900s when the D&H Canal ran through Port Ben and 30% more water flowed through the creek banks (before the Rondout Reservoir was built), captured our imaginations and inspired this new work.

Works on Water brings a boat to the tailgate. Climb inside for a sensory water-based experience of the Rondout Creek.

In collaboration with Works on Water, we will be bringing Port Ben Boat Club to Artport Kingston for Upstate Art Weekend, June 25-28. Visitors will have the opportunity to  climb into a boat from the club fleet and listen to underwater recordings, captured at Port Ben, of the Rondout Creek. They then will be invited to become members of the revived boat club through making one personal commitment to care for the creek.
